Woden

Town centre with Westfield and Canberra Hospital

Woden, Canberra

Woden is the south-side workhorse: a town centre with a big Westfield, the Canberra Hospital, a busy bus interchange and a growing run of new apartments. The food scene is quieter than the inner-north strips but still solid, with reliable cafes, Asian restaurants and the kind of pub meal you eat without thinking. Phillip's commercial blocks bring lunch-time crowds during the week, while the surrounding suburbs of Curtin, Garran and Hughes keep the weekend trade local. It's the easy choice if you're heading to a Brumbies game at GIO Stadium, or stopping in on the way south to Tuggeranong.
