Kingston

Foreshore dining, Sunday markets and lakeside walks

Kingston, Canberra

Kingston balances heritage shopfronts on Green Square with the modern Kingston Foreshore, where restaurants line the boardwalk and the boats come and go on Lake Burley Griffin. It's the suburb most visitors associate with a long Canberra lunch: bottomless brunches, wood-fired pizza, gelato and a glass of something cold while the water sparkles. The Sunday Old Bus Depot Markets pull in shoppers from across the ACT, and the precinct has matured to include a cinema, breweries and easy weekend hire of kayaks and paddleboards. Walking and cycling paths connect the foreshore to Manuka and the parliamentary triangle, making it one of the easiest suburbs to spend a whole day in without ever needing a car.
