Ownership

What's On Canberra is independently owned and operated in the ACT. It is not part of, owned by, or funded by any larger media network, political party, government department, or property developer.

Funding

We are free to read and intend to stay that way. Our work is supported by readers of our free weekly email and, where relevant, by clearly disclosed local sponsorships. No sponsor has any say over editorial.

Corrections

We correct factual errors clearly and visibly at the foot of the article, with the date and the nature of the correction. Email corrections@canberrabrief.com.au.

Editorial independence

Stories about businesses, developers or organisations with which we have any commercial or personal relationship will disclose that relationship in the article itself.

Photos and illustrations

We follow the same standards used by major newsrooms (AP, Reuters, the Guardian): news photos must be real, and AI imagery is never passed off as a photograph.

  • Licensed photos. Where a real, licensed photo of an event, venue or subject is available (via Pexels, Unsplash or similar), we use it and credit the photographer and source underneath the image. We never alter the content of a news photo.
  • AI illustrations (fallback only). When no licensed image exists, we use a non-photographic editorial illustration generated by AI. Every AI cover carries a visible "AI illustration" label and an inline caption stating it is not a photograph.
  • What our AI illustrations will never show. Real or identifiable people, real landmarks, logos, brands, signage, or any scene that could be mistaken for documentary photography. Our prompts and an automated check block these before publishing.
  • No deepfakes, no manipulated photos. We do not generate AI imagery of real people, public figures or named businesses, and we do not edit photos to change what happened.
  • Reader protections. If you believe an image on this site misrepresents a real person, place or event, email corrections@canberrabrief.com.au and we will remove or correct it promptly.
