Saunas, bathhouses and cold plunge in Canberra
Where to book a sauna session, contrast bath or cold plunge in the ACT.
Sauna and cold-plunge culture has grown rapidly in Canberra in the past few years. This guide is descriptive only and not medical advice; contrast bathing is not suitable for everyone and you should check with your GP first.
Dedicated sauna and plunge studios
Sauna House Canberra in Braddon and Nordic Wellness Canberra in Fyshwick run group and private sauna sessions with cold plunge. Most sessions are bookable online and last 60 to 90 minutes.
Pool-based sauna
Several public aquatic centres include a sauna or steam room with general pool entry, including Lakeside Leisure Centre. Confirm hours and availability with the centre before visiting.
Outdoor wild swimming
In summer, swimmers head to Lake Burley Griffin (where flagged), the Cotter and the Murrumbidgee. Always check current Health Directorate advisories before swimming in open water.
What to bring
Studios typically supply towels and a robe but ask you to bring swimwear, sandals and a water bottle. Most have showers on site.
