Run clubs and parkrun in Canberra
Free Saturday 5kms, social run clubs and inclusive running communities across the ACT.
You do not need a gym to start running in Canberra. There are four weekly parkruns and an active club scene. This guide is descriptive only and not training or medical advice.
parkrun (free, Saturdays at 8am)
Four weekly parkruns operate in the ACT: Tuggeranong (around Lake Tuggeranong), Lake Ginninderra (Belconnen), Commonwealth Park (city) and Ginninderry (Strathnairn). Each is a free, timed, volunteer-led 5km. Register once at parkrun.com.au and bring your barcode.
Canberra Runners Club
Canberra Runners Club runs social and training sessions through the week, with members training for distances from 5km to ultras. Visitors are usually welcome to try a session before joining.
Inclusive running
Achilles Canberra pairs sighted guides with runners who have a vision impairment or other disability. New members and volunteer guides are welcomed.
Where Canberrans run
The Lake Burley Griffin loop (around 28km, with shorter bridges-to-bridges options) is the most popular long route. Lake Ginninderra, Lake Tuggeranong and the bike paths around Yerrabi Pond are flatter and well lit.
