Canberra snow 2026: Corin Forest snow play and day-trip guide

The simplest way to plan a managed snow-play day from Canberra is to start with Corin Forest, in the Tidbinbilla ranges. VisitCanberra places it about 45 minutes from central Canberra, but winter road conditions can add time.

Corin Forest dates for 2026

Corin Forest's published 2026 schedule lists its main snow-play season from 6 June to 20 September, followed by spring snow play from 26 September to 11 October. The ski area is listed to operate from 6 June to 6 September. Hours vary across the season and remain subject to change, so use the official booking calendar rather than relying on an old screenshot or social post.

What a snow-play booking covers

The official snow-play page listed a 1.5-hour snow-play ticket at $27.50 when checked on 15 July 2026. Toboggan and clothing packages cost extra, while children under two were listed as free when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Prices and availability can change, so confirm both before travelling.

You can visit the viewing deck or café without a snow-play ticket, according to Corin Forest's visitor information. Everyone entering the snow-play or ski areas needs the relevant ticket, and only Corin Forest toboggans are permitted in the snow-play area.

What to wear and bring

Treat snow play as a wet activity rather than an ordinary cold-weather walk. Corin Forest recommends warm clothing, waterproof pants and a jacket, gloves, warm water-resistant boots, sunglasses, sunscreen and a dry change of socks and clothes. Jackets, pants and boots are available to hire, while gloves are sold rather than hired.

Check roads and weather before leaving

Corin Road is generally accessible to ordinary cars, but Corin Forest says natural snowfall can bring temporary closures or restrictions to 4WD vehicles or cars carrying chains. The ACT Parks winter guidance also advises visitors to check road conditions and alerts, prepare for ice and sudden weather changes, and use a 4WD or chains when required.

Snowfall near Canberra is variable. Corin Forest uses snowmaking for most of its winter cover, so do not assume fresh natural snow in the city or surrounding parks. Check the venue's current conditions and Canberra forecast on the morning of your booking.

Planning a longer Snowy Mountains day trip

For Perisher, Thredbo or another Kosciuszko National Park destination, allow for a much longer drive and different road rules. The NSW Government snow-driving guide says all two-wheel-drive vehicles entering Kosciuszko National Park between the June and October long weekends must carry snow chains.
