The ACT Rural Fire Service has opened summer recruitment with a target of 180 new volunteers across six brigades, including Tidbinbilla, Jerrabomberra and Gungahlin.

New recruits complete a six-weekend training block starting mid-August, covering bushfire behaviour, vehicle operation and first aid.

Chief Officer Rohan Scott says the service is particularly seeking volunteers with weekday daytime availability, the hardest window to staff.

Applications close 20 July via the ACT RFS website.
